The predecessor of Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Company was the manufacturing business of medium and heavy commercial vehicles of the Second Automobile Plant.

Renamed Dongfeng Motor Company in 1992.

This company  began construction in 1969 and officially put into production in 1975.

In 2003, after Dongfeng Motor Co., LTD., the largest joint venture in China’s automobile industry, was established by Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. and Nissan Motor Co., LTD.,
