When the coolant is insufficient, the low coolant level warning light on the instrument panel will illuminate to indicate the need to add engine coolant.
Checking and adding
1. Observe from the expansion tank, if the level is below the indicator line, it is necessary to add coolant.
WARNING: Do not remove the expansion tank cap when the engine is too hot to prevent burns.
NOTE: Before adding or replacing coolant, check engine and hoses for wear, leaks, and loose clamps.
2. Fill coolant from the expansion tank fill port under the hood. Place a thick cloth on top of the expansion tank cap and slowly twist the cap to reduce the internal pressure before removing the expansion tank cap.
NOTE: Add coolant up to 3/4 of the way up the expansion tank.
NOTE: The specified engine antifreeze and antirust fluid must be added.
3. Start the engine and idle for 1 minute.
4. Stop engine and recheck coolant level, if coolant level is low, add to 3/4 of expansion tank.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until coolant reaches 3/4 of the way up the expansion tank, then screw the expansion tank cap on.
